Recreation Center

ElmcorThe objective of the recreation department is to promote the healthy, mental, social, physical and cultural development of all youth. Promote positive family and peer relations.
Facilitate educational success and development of career goals. Promote knowledge and appreciation of the communities in which they live. Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all youth who cross ELMCOR’S doorways.

The Louis Armstrong Recreational Center features a regulation-sized gymnasium for ages eight to 18 where over 500 young people participate in basketball tournaments each season, over 400 youngsters participate in soccer competitions, approximately 30 families are currently involved in Karate, another 20 students are learning boxing techniques in the boxing ring, and about 20 other participants are taking dance lessons.  The gym also includes a racket ball court.  It is available for afterschool activities -- and to the community-at-large during unscheduled time slots for special events.

The Recreation Department offers youth ages 5 through 18 the following;

Gina Lewis, Program Director, has successfully managed Elmcor’s after school programs for the past 7 years. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree and operates the after school program under the New York State School-Age Child Care (SACC) regulations. Ms Lewis and her family are proud homeowners in the East Elmhurst/Corona Communities.
